NeMO - Stampa 3D per ingegneria tissutale in campo biomedico

3D printing is a breaking technology in tissue engineering. The ability to simulate
in vitro the natural environment for a cell culture leads to a rapid and efficient
growth of biological tissues to be implanted in damaged organs or organoids
that can be used to test personalized drugs. Ad hoc structures are obtained
to study how the shape and mechanical properties of the scaffold affect the
differentiation of stem cells.
3D printing uses a hydrogel as a light-curing material. We make micrometric scaffolds by ultraviolet laser curing or a microstereolithographic process.

Prof. Roberto Francini. Born in Pisa, Italy on the 24th october 1955.
Present position: Associate Professor, Solid State Physics, Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Rome – Tor Vergata.
Scientific experties: Study of impurities and point defects in crystalline and glass materials by optical spectroscopy measurements:
absorption and emission of light, luminescence decay, nonlinear response (two-photon absorption). Study of energy-transfer
processes in rare-earth ions hosted in nanocrystalline structures. Vacuum ultraviolet spectroscopy. Spectroscopy with syncrothron
light sources. Study of laser-matter interactions. Research activity: Application of linear and non-linear spectroscopical techniques
to the study of: intrinsic properties of insulating single crystals (excitonic resonances, band to band transitions, band symmetries);
electronic properties in point defects ( ionic impurities, colour centers) in insulating crystals (bulk and nanostructured) like alkali halides,
fluorites, fluoro-perovskites, ternary oxides, as well as in glassy matrices.
