Fab Lab Barcelona is part of the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, where it support different educational and research programs related with the multiple scales of the human habitat. It is also the headquarters of the global coordination of the Fab Academy program in collaboration with the Fab Foundation and the MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms; the Fab Academy is a distributed platform of education and research in which each Fab Labs operates as a classroom and the planet as the campus of the largest University in construction in the world, where students learn about the principles, applications and implications of digital manufacturing technology.
FabLabBarcelona presented its ongoing projects #MFR16:1) The newFab Market:an online market where you can find a variety of locally made products designed by people from all over the world. Products are sold ready for use, assembly or fabrication, giving the user the ability to participate in the making process.
2) Making Sense: this Horizon 2020 European research project aim to explore how open source software, open source hardware, digital maker practices and open design can be effectively used by local communities to fabricate their own sensing tools, make sense of their environments and address pressing environmental problems in air, water, soil and sound pollution.
3) MAKE-IT: this Horizon 2020 European research project focused on how the role of Collective Awareness Platforms (CAPS) enables the growth and governance of the Maker movement, particularly in relation to Information Technology, using and creating social innovations and achieving sustainability. MAKE-IT project participated in the EU CAPs informal meeting and hosted a panel to explain our research to the Faire assistants.
